Good write up bud.

If I was the Jets, take the 4 firsts and run. Trouba is great, but if the Jets were offered 4 first round picks from any team for him.....

If the Bruins hand Trouba an offer-sheet, we have to take the picks.

Also, would think Jones signing (32.4 million over 6 years, 5.4 AAV) helps set the price for Trouba.

Boston floating a rumor of offer-sheeting Trouba isn't just about getting Jets to be more open to trading him. It's about getting everyone to lower their prices on defensemen. There are no real UFA options, so the couple teams willing to trade D have the market cornered. Boston is desperately trying to make it seem like they have other options.

Can't, the GM has already stated he'll match any offer sheet. I mean, he COULD go back on his word, but what does that do to his credibility going forward?

In order for Trouba to sign, it's likely to be at least $7M per year. I don't think he wants to stay in Winnipeg which is why he was asking (reportedly) for $8M. Kind of a, "Sure, I'll play here, if you make it worth my while." So to have the security should the Jets match, he likely won't sign one unless it's for huge money.

I agree with all of that

Trouba at $7 million would be one of the worst contracts in hockey.

Lets trade Trouba before July 1, 2016.

That Trouba+ for Duchesne trade looks pretty good to me

Take the 4 first round picks. Package 2 of them for a LHD. Wouldn't that be an ideal solution?

Screw credibility, particularly given the context/situation. If the Bruins hand Trouba an offer sheet and the implication for the Jets is that they will receive 4 1st round picks... the GM has to take that deal in the best interest of the team moving forward.

Don't imagine Chevy thought that such a scenario would come up whereby a team would mortgage its future for one player who has yet to really prove himself. Its an easy sell/explanation for the fan base and to players. That... and its an even easier sell given Trouba's previous salary demands (which was basically asking for a trade).

The GM has to do what's best for his team... taking the 4 1st rounders would be just that.

So Boston balks at 2 first rounders for Shatty but will give up four plus pay over $9.1 Mill AAV to sign Trouba.

If they are that stupid, take it and run Chevy. Trade two of the picks to St Louis to replace him and you still have two more picks.

Trouba is developing into a stud defenseman but he is not worth that kind of scratch.

Hi Peter,

Is it possible that the Jets released Trouba's contract demands and leaked this story so that it would make it easier to trade him? Kind of reminds of the stories that were going on about Bogosian and Kane before they were dealt.....

But if Boston is going to do something dumb why stop them? I think it's a strategy but not one that I would be reckless with and why soften the demand on trade request when Bruins only have one RFA option for any defence of note?

Trouba, Ladd abd Byfuglien's demands were leaked ages ago by Tim Campbell of the FP- if you believe them or not. This was already suggested as an option as you said- seemed to work okay with Ladd in terms of how fans reacted.

Pointing out what they are trying to do wasn't meant as a suggestion it was working.

I think if Boston wants to make a deal we deal with them.

To WPG: Brad Marchand, Torey Krug, Boston's 2017 1st round pick

To BOS: Jacob Trouba, Winnipeg's 2017 2nd round pick

What do other JETS fans think of the trade idea?

Marchand is a UFA after next season; Krug is kind of like Enstrom, although younger... he's a RFA too. Imagine Boston would want to keep Krug to play with Trouba anyway.

I wouldn't do it, doesn't make much sense for the Jets.

Settle down, Jets fans. Think logically. This will NEVER happen

Four first-round picks for Trouba? Sending ONE first-round pick for Trouba would be a bad move. Especially for a team like Boston, that appears to be getting progressively worse

I agree with you, Boston really has nothing to offer us. I would love it if the Jets were able to pull of a deal with either the Oilers or Avalanche. Anyone of RNH, Duchesne, and Eberle/Yakupov for Trouba deals would work out well for the Jets.

Are you kidding??? You would actually turn this deal down?? I mean, it's a moot point anyways - Boston would never propose something like this. But I'm shocked that you wouldn't take this hypothetical deal

Marchand would be a rental for the season - he wouldn't resign in Winnipeg; we already have Morrissey, who'd be cheaper and is bigger than Krug and we have Enstrom (who basically would play the same role as Krug)... plus the 1st round pick.

So basically, after next year, we'd have traded for:

a player we already have and a 1st round pick

for:

Trouba and a 2nd.

Just my opinion, but I don't see the value or logic in that deal

What's the problem with having 2 good players who play similar styles? Pittsburgh has 2 first-line centers and it worked out okay for them. I think Chicago likes having Keith and Hjalmarsson, LA with Doughty and Muzzin, etc. Granted, these are "elite" players and not just "good" ones, but I don't see the issue with adding talent with talent.

There are Winnipeg fans that would turn down Marchand, Krug AND a first for Trouba? Thats crazy.
